August 2009

Topsham in Bloom goes from strength to strength.  This year, with more than 50 entries, there was a record number of participants.  The judges no doubt had a difficult task when they viewed all the displays during the week of 20th July.  Well done, and thank you Topsham for all your excellent work.  Prizes will be awarded to the winners on 23 August at the Topsham Allotments and Gardens Society Annual Show and certificates will be circulated to the runners up later this month.

Arrangements have been finalised for The Topsham Society’s annual Outing, which was postponed in June.  This will now be on Tuesday 29th September, leaving Topsham from the Holman Way car park at 8.45 a.m. and returning at about 6.30 p.m.  We are visiting Owlpen Manor in the Cotswolds, near Uley in Gloucestershire.  The Tudor manor, described as one of the most romantic in England, is set in its own picturesque wooded valley. The gardens, on 7 hanging terraces, date back to the reign of Queen Anne.

There will be a stop on the way back for tea at Cribbs Causeway.  A booking form will be distributed to members of the Society shortly. If you are not a member you are still welcome to come along and you can obtain a booking form from Jane Coleman (876456).  The cost for travel and entry to Owlpen Manor is £15 and you can buy coffee and lunch at the house.
