October 2010

The Topsham Society has responded to the revised Exeter Core Strategy Development Plan. We welcomed changes from the earlier Core Strategy Plan, in particular the reduction in the target for new homes from 15,000 to 12,000 and the protection of the green space between Exeter and Topsham.

The Core Strategy Plan consultation period closed on 24 September and it will now follow its prescribed course which involves submission to the Secretary of State for the Environment (in December 2010), examination in public (in April 2011) and then formal adoption in the summer/ autumn of 2011.

The Topsham Society programme of winter talks begins on Thursday 21 October with a talk entitled “Trafalgar Day and Lord Nelson” by Chris Lambert. All our talks take place in Matthews Hall and start at 7-30pm. The full programme of talks will be mailed to members early this month and is posted on our website at www.topshamsociety.co.uk .

Our popular calendar will also be available for sale from mid October from Topsham Post Office and Joel Segal Books, price £5-80. For 2011 it will again feature a series of tear off post cards, on this occasion being photographs of coloured post cards of early twentieth century Topsham from Sadru Bhanji’s private collection. We are grateful to Sadru for his generosity in allowing us to use selected images from his historic collection.
