July 2011

June has been a busy month for the Topsham Society, including our attendance at the Exeter City Council Core Strategy hearing and our Annual General Meeting. Information from the hearing and the changes to the Topsham Society Committee will be reported in the August edition of Estuary.

We were pleased with the interest in our special walks arranged as part of the celebrations of the 150th anniversary of the Avocet Line. The walks have prompted interest in more special walks which we are arranging on request. We have been pleased to welcome two new guides to our team, John Heal and Ian Jay, but would be pleased to hear from more volunteers. We are still hoping that someone will come forward to take on responsibility for the organisation of the walks. If anyone is interested in becoming a guide or offering help with the arrangements for the walk schedule please contact Daphne Burdick on 877296 for more information.

Our annual outing this year will be to Ugbrooke House and Gardens in Chudleigh on Friday 2 September. The visit will include a look round the house and garden and tea. Booking forms are available from David Woods, 1 Chapel Place or Jane Coleman, Beach House, 45, The Strand.
