The Society has two documents currently available... The Topsham Design Statement is a document offering the views of many of Topsham’s residents about the town’s built environment, its unique character and future challenges. It offers guidance to local people, planners and developers about how the Topsham community wishes its buildings, streets, landscape and estuary setting to be conserved and enhanced. These local views were expressed at two large and successful exhibitions in Topsham and have been captured in this detailed and illustrated document, which includes a brief history of Topsham's development, guidance on future construction, and the results from public consultations in 2004 and 2005. £5, from the Topsham Society, for details please email publications@topshamsociety.co.uk. Topsham: An Account Of Its Streets and Buildings (first published in 1971 and revised in 2005) is an account by Topsham residents, co-ordinated by local historian the late Caroline Obussier, and it describes the town’s development in the context of its geographical setting and its historic role as a port. It also chronicles the changes to individual buildings of significance in the conservation area of 'old' Topsham. This document is carefully illustrated and is available for £7.00 from Topsham Museum, Topsham News, the Post Office and through the Society at publications@topshamsociety.co.uk. |
